#WIPMADNESS 2013--Week 2 Check-In

WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S #WIPMADNESS!

The view from my favorite spot at my library
How'd things go this week? Despite a week of horrific turmoil, I was able to work on my WIP  and I'm quite happy about that. Writing through adversity. That's my theme this month.

Now, for a brief announcement:
Our dear #wipmadness founder would like you to read this important announcement about our up and coming March Madness.

And did y'all see the vlog of our own Jaye Robin Brown signing her book contract? WOOHOO!!!

And finally, I'd like to congratulate (or apologize) to our dear LS Taylor who is the first victim, I mean winner, of this month's special musical prize. Please DM me on Twitter with your mailing address, LS, okay?  ^_^

So Wipsters, what adversity did you overcome this week to work on that WIP?

  1. Oh my gosh, you linked my silly vlog. OK, I like it. Thanks :0)

No REAL adversity for me this week, but I battle daily with the 5 am alarm clock, sometimes I overcome, other times I roll over and hit snooze. Honestly, you are my hero, Angelina. So strong.

Hope this week is easier and you find solace in your words.

    1. Thank you. Some things are getting resolved in a very favorable light which will free up some of my energy for my writing work. Happy to link you. ^_^

  2. YAY JRo and LS Taylor! Way to rock it out!

Adversity...does insanity count as adversity? Ugh. I've been battling a flare-up of RA and some school issues with my kiddos that have kept me from focusing on my own writing. I'm still working through some basic plot issues and struggling for inspiration and the energy to get myself going.

In the end, I've started injecting a new medication and the Ghost Kids are getting help both at school and at home. Now if I could just convince my characters to get off their duffs and give me some mojo, I can get this WIP going!

    Happy Monday, everyone!

  3. No adversity for me, thank goodness. I wrote each day, like I'd planned and although I didn't get very far, at least I'm slowly moving forward.

  4. I know I'm such a Ca wimp but the cold has been kind of an adversity for me. Not used to it being in the low 20s out here! Also the whole I'm-not-good-enough thing always goes through my head. But one plus is I'm noticing I'm digging deeper with my characters and premise in this revision. No longer is what I've done before good enough. I'm peeling back the top layer and going deeper. It's been painful at times but worth it.

    1. Dig deep. You are good enough! And yeah, it's been really cold here in Northern Arizona. High today was 17. Ugh.

  5. You guys are all so inspiring! :)

No adversity here, aside from extra hours at the day job last week. The same will be true this week, so my goal is to make good use of the limited time I do have for writing. In other words (and this is my mantra), STAY OFF THE FREAKIN' INTERNET. Well, except when I need to chill with my wipmadness buds for a while. But then I'm srsly off there again. ;)

    1. I had to go outside into the freezing temps for Internet for over three weeks. I'm so excited to have Internet in bed again. It's like hanging out with an old friend. ^_^ But hey, STAY OFF THE INTERNET!

  6. I got a lot of rejections last week. That's my only real adversity, but that sort of thing does knock down drive and motivation a bit. However, because I'm working on a manuscript I LOVE, it hasn't been too bad. Just doing a final read-through of changes this week, then it's off to another beta reader and then hopefully my agent.

Then I need a couple days off. House/life stuff is catching up on me and I've spent many many hours at my desk the last couple of months, so I think I need a couple of days away. Starting to think about March goals and getting excited...

    1. I know what you mean about rejection zapping the energy a bit, but I know you'll work through that. Enjoy the final read through. Can't wait to have a paper copy of it in my hands. ^_^

  7. Yay! Thank you, Angelina! I think I can suffer. :)

As I sit here in the passenger seat of our car, the traffic moving at a glacial pace due to the unexpected snowfall, I have time to wax poetic on the monumental accomplishments ...

Nah, who'm I kidding? I'll just do a happy dance, because I finished revisions to SIGN OF THE STAR! And the synopsis, too. Mostly. I thought it was finished on Thursday, but I've been tweaking it ever since. It feels done now, though!

Now I'm settling in to beta-reading, as I start to think about revising my NaNo, JACK GARCIA AND THE PROBLEMS WITH PIXIE DUST, and prepare to send out the three requested partials.

    1. Yay L.S! I think that deserves some kind of celebration. I'll send some music your way. ^_^

    2. Thanks! I still haven't quite figured out how I'll celebrate, but ...

O__O I just remembered the Reese's Peanut Butter heart I bought last spring. I said I'd enjoy it when I was done. It's still good, right? And if it isn't, now's the perfect time to buy another ...

But I'd still like to figure out how to celebrate other than food or drink.

  8. Adversity... does life count? Lol. It does seem like thousands of real-life things get in the way of writing all the time... but I managed to finish pre-revisions work this weekend, which was my goal, and am ready to get down to the real editing.

  9. Last week I had a productive week, and then I smashed headlong into the weekend. Travel, sickness, mayhem. Today I snuck up on my ms, and I figured I'd get very little done but I managed to eke out about 400 words. Not too bad considering I'm still not feeling great. So that counts as working through adversity, though nothing compared to what you're dealing with.

Here are some freshly-baked cyber-cookies. O O O You can have them all. You don't have to share with anybody. Even your cat.

  10. I think adversity won this week. I didn't finish a new chapter in my WiP, but I did find a new CP, get some fantastic feedback on what I have done, and mostly cuddled with sick little ones or shoveled snow. Ah well. I will get more done this week!

  11. In the last week I finished my WIP! All 125k words of it. :) Now I'm working on revisions for my last WIP, and querying small presses. Busy times at the Holmberg House this month!

  12. Congratulations on plowing through, Angelina. Glad you were still able to spend time on your WIP.
And thanks for sharing the link to Jaye Robin Brown's blog. I had missed that.

  13. My only adversity (thank goodness) was time. Precious time. I wish they sold it in stores. Oh the amazing things I could do with more!!

My freshman daughter made the varsity soccer team and we're in full throttle. Practice everyday, 3-day tournaments for the next two weeks and a regular game thrown in the mix, weekly. O_O A lot of driving, fast food and homework in the car.

Although we've been on the road, I did manage to finish with my first set of revisions and sent them back to my agent Tuesday. Can't wait to see where they take the ms!

Loved JRo's vlog. :) Glad you got to spend some time on your wip, Angelina!!

  14. Congrats to Jaye!!! That's great news. My adversity is feeling like a nothing as a fill out job applications, one after another. I have to do it just for the unemployment, but it's a constant reminder that my skills are now obsolete, which spirals into the "I'm worthless" category. And AMEN to Candilynn's crazy shuttling schedule. Same w my nephew for all his counseling sessions. Blugh. Must push past it all !!!

  15. No adversity really. Just trying not to dwell on the rejection and keep myself convinced I am a pretty good writer where picture books are concerned. Thanks for sharing the wipmadness announcement and Jaye`s crazy cool vlog!!

Keep on writing Angelina and the wipsters! This week is all about revising some picture books.

    1. You are not a good writer. . . you are a great writer! Let those rejections motivate you to prove them wrong!
