The Most Interesting Thing: Twitter Tips for the Twitterpated

Tips for beginners:

How to get started: go here to create an account

Bio: Here's an article to help you with your bio

Avatar: Choose a photo or an image to represent you. No one seems to want to follow an egg. ^_^

Don't know who to follow? Here are a couple of lists of children's writer peeps you could peruse:
Wipmadness Peeps
Peeps from Verla Kay's Blueboards
Agents and Editors

You can follow a list or follow individuals. You can create lists of your own. I use my lists when I don't have much time and I want to see the latest from the peeps I interact with the most.

Tips for the twitterpated:

#1 Before following someone, peruse their tweets to see if they're just marketing themselves or whether they're interacting with others.

#2 Use the Block button. It is your friend.

#3 Don't be afraid to reach out and @ someone. Join the conversation.

#4  Keep private information private. Use direct messages when warranted.

#5 If someone tweets something hilarious, helpful, or has good news to share, by all means, hit the retweet button.

Tips for everyone:

Be yourself
Be polite
Be helpful
Have fun!

  2. I sure need to go through the people I follow and unfollow some. It seems all some people do is tweet about thier books or reviews. I'm pickier now, but I didn't always notice when I started. Great tips to follow.

  3. Great tips! I use tweet deck and for some reason it won't let me make lists. I may need to check out twitterpad.

  4. Thanks, Angelina. :) I didn't know there was a "block" button. Let me go see. Oh, yeah, now I see it. *o* I've been getting slammed with spam, ultimately driving me further from Twitter. Swallows pride, yup, got a facebook page. I know there's spam there too, but I've only had one so far.

I've gotten the weirdest, disgusting follows on Twitter in the past month.

So you can unfollow, too? Do they know you've unfollowed them? Are they alerted? I don't want to hurt feelings, but I've clicked "follow" on so many, that I'd like to shorten my list now that I'm not follow-back-happy.

I'll check back by later and see if anyone has tips about unfollowing unwanted peeps.

    Thanks again. :))

    1. If you don't want to hurt feelings, just make a list of all the people you are interested in keeping up with. I will unfollow people for various reasons and so far I haven't received any hate tweets. ^_^ As regards the disgusting follows, they go in waves. I use the "Block and report for Spam" button.

  5. Excellent advice! I HATE the people who follow you, unfollow you, follow you, unfollow you... There's a reason I didn't follow you back the first time, peeps! (Hahaha, not that I'm bitter...)

Thanks for the advice, and thanks so much for your sweet posts on my blog. You are AWESOME!! :)

    1. I finally figured out that I could block those follow, unfollow, follow peeps so I wouldn't have to get irritated each time I saw their faces pop into my inbox. ^_^

  6. Okay, what about this issue. In the past two days, I've received emails from Twitter, announcing I have a "new follower". I've been alerted 8 times by the same "new follower". *Grrr..* I'm going to just ignore it for now, but if anyone has an idea of how to get Twitter to stop emailing me, I'd love to hear it!!

    1. Go to your profile page and under notifications you can uncheck any of the boxes that you don't want emails for. ^_^
