The Most Interesting Thing: Right in the Difficult

“Right in the difficult we must have our joys, our happiness, our dreams: there against the depth of this background, they stand out, there for the first time we see how beautiful they are.”― Rainer Maria Rilke

Coffee Pot Rock, Sedona Arizona
As some of you know, I recently suffered a terrible betrayal. Betrayed by the one I loved above all others on earth. But as Rilke wrote, in the midst of the difficult I still have my joys, my happiness, my dreams. I see these clearer than ever and they are breathtaking.

I thank you for the love and support with which you've enveloped me. As the pieces of my shattered life come back together, I am overwhelmed with appreciation. I am surrounded by magnificence amidst the chaos. Each day brings reasons for joy. My happiness transforms. My dreams expand.

Right in the difficult, are you seeing your beautiful joys, your happiness, your dreams?

  1. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, Angela. I think difficult times allow us to see with a clarity we wouldn't have otherwise.

  2. Ahhhh, Rilke. He always knows the right thing to say, I swear. I often feel like he's speaking directly to me, and I'm glad to hear that this quote spoke to you too, and in such a positive way. The difficult definitely seems impossible at times, so it's inspiring to see you well on your way to gaining strength again.

    Hugs and love.

  3. Gosh, Ang, I hate you had to endure such sorrow. We're all right there behind you, please know that! Remember, whenever you need, we're only a click away. Most of us can check emails and tweets by phone, just say the word, and we're there. (((((((((GIANT, SMOOSHY HUGS)))))))))))

Rilke's quote speaks to me of silver linings, even if it's only a sliver. Reach out, catch the ray of beautiful hope. If it appears to you, it's yours. Claim it, and in time, it'll grow.

I'm so glad to hear you're looking upward. :))

  4. "Right in the difficult, are you seeing your beautiful joys, your happiness, your dreams?"

Yes, Angelina. And I'm so glad to see that you are too. Hang in there. :)

  5. I am truly impressed with how strong you are. I know how hurt and betrayed out of the blue you were, yet you took action and found optimism so much faster than most of the people I know who went through similar situations. I am so proud you chose not to waste time wallowing or torturing yourself with false hopes. YOU are a badass! :) An awesome BAMF...and I am so excited for your bright future lived on your terms! :D

  6. Keep those dreams in front of you, honey, and keep moving forward. Why? Because we're all behind you, pushing you along and it's getting crowded back here! =) I love you loads. And in the end, you will be 100x happier than he can ever hope to be, as well as filled with self respect. Priceless.

  7. At such times, for me the saving grace was freedom. When I no longer had what I had cherished, there was room for new situations and possibilities I had never foreseen.

I hope you are finding your own saving graces. Hugs!

  8. I've often found that amazing life-changing things happen during the darkest times. I'm so glad this is true for you.

  9. That's a wonderful quote, Angelina, and I'm so glad you've found it to be true in your life. Seeing the beauty of our joys and dreams against the backdrop of pain is truly a transformative and sustaining thing.

    Sending love and hugs....

  10. sorry to hear :( on the flip side, i use to live in phoenix area...mesa...and i miss these beautiful mountain views! great pic. newest follower, hi!!

  11. I am so sorry to hear of your heartbreak, so impressed with how you've already transformed loss and betrayal into something approaching wisdom. The mark of an artist -- to work that alchemy. And Flagstaff/Sedona! What a beautiful part of the world to heal in (and write in). I went to summer camp near the old Foxboro ranch (if that's still around) -- 10 formative Augusts -- the sky, the red dust, the yellow meadow, the thunderstorms, the shooting stars, the water, the headiness of that mountain air, all embedded in my being.
    so thinking of you.

  12. Oh no! I wish I could just call you up and take you out to tea and give you a hug, Angi! I miss you. Hang in there!
