The Most Interesting Thing: Moving Forward

Lately I've been thinking a lot about what it means to move forward, in many aspects of life. In some ways I've moved forward by leaps and bounds, in other aspects I'm stuck. When it comes to my writing, I'm trudging through thick mud, struggling to put one foot in front of the other, to take even one new step. I did finish print galleys this week, but that wasn't writing. That was proofreading. Never before have I struggled so hard to take just one step forward. I have goals. Plenty of goals. I make promises to myself. I want to move on to better things so I guess I'd better follow Teddy's advice and muster that labor, that painful effort, that grim energy and that resolute courage. Help me, peeps. I need your words of encouragement!

  1. You can do it!! I like you're analogy of trudging through thick mud--writing really does feel that way sometimes. But moving forward is moving forward, no matter the pace. Wishing you lots of luck (and dry, flat ground to spring across!).

  3. "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." ~Winston Churchill... or to quote that catchy and classic 'Santa Clause is Coming to Town' tune -- "Put one foot in front of the other..."
    You can do it! HUGS.

  4. Here, take my hand, Angelina. Let's walk out of the mire together. Recently, I've been dedicating 15 minutes a day to writing. It's not much, but I am moving along and no longer drowning.

  5. There are so many steps and they take so long. That can be discouraging. When I can't face the big picture, instead I focus on the little puzzle piece in front of me. Like Mieke said, 15 minutes; or like you said, proofreading galleys. One step at a time. They will add up.
    Hugs.

  6. Totally agree with the 15 minutes of writing a day. I've had to do it in the past and it really helps.

Don't worry, you'll get through the mud!

  9. You got this! Think of what you've done lately - your harp, your poems, Julius Caesar Brown, a move to a beautiful place - this all came AFTER. You are making steps, you are moving forward.

  10. Sometimes it takes our hearts a while to catch up with our impatience to move forward. Impatience is a good sign, though, even if it doesn't feel that way. It means you want to feel better, want to be happy again. THAT is courage trying to fight its way to the surface.

  11. Listen to ole Teddy's wise words, Angelina. It will get better. When we're down, there's only one way to look. Up. Offering you cyber (((HUGS))). I know it feels like you're treading water, but your head is above the surface. Give your feet a little kick. You'll propel forward. I promise. :)
