October #WIPMADNESS Week Two

“If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.”--Ellen Hopkins

Double Stuff Oreos--Cow Version

So I attended the SCBWI Arizona Annual Conference over the weekend. Met some cool writers. Enjoyed the heat in Scottsdale. Got that great quote from Ellen Hopkins. And played the harp during the book signing. Never mind that I should have been signing books, but the print release of JCB got delayed due to some sort of technical difficulties. Sigh.

I'd like to say I've been busy writing this past week, but instead I've been busy with annoying busyness of the business variety. Ugh. I fear this week will be worse, so maybe we should set a weekly goal this week and then be better about some twitter accountability.

Okay. So I'm going to revise at least three chapters of the WIP this week. Who wants to keep my accountable?
What are you gonna do this week?

  1. All right, woman! I'll be checking in on twitter...part of the week, anyway!

I had a great time at my retreat last week. Didn't get as many pages as I was hoping for, but got a lot of perspective and many tools to help me. There were 4 attendees and 2 leaders for little cabin-in-the-woods action and it was amazing!

I realized that when I think about structure too much as I'm drafting, I lose my voice. So, it's back to pantsing it! I'm great with revision, so I just have to let myself suck it up for a while and then make magic later. (Of course, I'm only an apprentice, so I might be mopping for days when it's all over!)

    1. I went to a RWA Birthday Bash this weekend. I even had a hotel room ALL TO MYSELF!!! Loved the conference. Victoria Dahl and Heather Bennett, editor of Decadent Pubs both had this message: Keep going. Keep trying. Keep submitting. And my favorite: Don't Stop! I also was part of a booksigning which included some best selling romance authors. So fun!

My goal this week is to redo the beginning of my current project based on feedback from an editor. Also need to finish reading a book for a blog tour this Saturday.

  2. Yay for conferences! I'm just gearing up for the Surrey one and very excited. My time seems to get sideswiped with a lot of things these days. I just remembered that I have a new website that I need to have up and running in the next week (more about that soon!) so my goal for this week is to work diligently on that (plus turn in first pass pages, beta read and outline my Nano project.)

  3. I'm also getting ready to go to SIWC in just under two weeks. It's a bit nerve-wracking.

This past week has been a bit crazy and won't get much better. We've a wedding next week (and the conference is luckily a week after that, rather than falling on its usual weekend of the third Saturday in October). I'm also trying to outline my NaNo. Among other things. It's been so busy lately that I keep forgetting to check in, so I made a point of loading your blog last night so I wouldn't forget today!

  4. Aw, sorry your print books didn't arrive in time. But yay for harp-playing and for great conferences! I'm heading to Surrey conference, too -- so excited! It's always so inspiring and educational, and I get to hang out with cool people, including Denise and Laura (and my mom and one of my writing-group friends and a whole host of online friends...yahoo!). :)

Good luck with your chapters this week, Angelina. Looking forward to some good news updates on twitter!

I plan to work on making revision notes this week -- would love to have the next draft done by the end of November. It'll be madness... I love madness... ;)

    Happy writing/revising, everyone!

  5. I would have loved to hear you play the harp! I am taking my violin to an SCBWI conference this weekend, but only to woodshed a few spots for the orchestra concert I head to straight from the conference.

Sorry about your printing problems-let me know when the release is. I'd like to buy a copy for my local library.

  6. Ack! Forgive me. I've been kind of distracted lately. Well, a lot distracted. I haven't been good on social media these days, but I can say I'm writing. Got a new ms off to my agent. Got some great feedback, and now it's back to the writing board. :)

Best of luck to you on our revisions! And that's so cool you played the harp at the con!! I bet you were a huge hit. :)
