Welcome to July Wipmadness Week 1

Aristotle

Welcome to July Madness! Let me tell you what's true madness. I spent yesterday in one of the most beautiful places on the planet (Sedona--see photo for proof) and most of the time my eyes were glued to my laptop screen as I reviewed my galleys. Yep. Dedication. Or stupidity. Not sure which. Trip to Sedona was planned. Galleys came as a surprise.

What kind of madness is mixing with your great genius these days?

  1. That's gorgeous! The summer spasticity has begun—one kid at summer camp, the other in driver's ed all day. Meanwhile, I wait on pins and needles to hear from my agent again and plunge headlong into the new WIP, which has grown to 8,631 words.

I spent Saturday hunting wildlife with my camera. Those of you who know me on FB will see that for a moment it seemed a Cottonmouth snake was hunting me. I better grab the tool box and tighten a few screws in my head...

    On with the madness!

  3. Beautiful view!

I'm working on a first draft this summer - it's coming along slowly, but surely. I'm at page 47 now and would like to make it to 100 before this month is through.

    Good luck Wipsters!

  4. Yoga classes. I'm back to teaching, and what's even better, I'm teaching the classes from here at home. Actually it's our small camp house down the driveway. Open room, light & airy, wooden floors, Nag Chappa (sp?) incense burning, music, and students & teacher. Yeah, I'm in my element again. There's nothing better than walking away from class with comments such as, "Wow, thanks. I really needed this." and "Gosh, we've missed your classes."

Sedona is stunning. But in a toss up between the view and galleys, I'd have to say I'd be glued to the computer screen too! So giddy excited for you. :D

  5. Summer's here! Son just got back from scout camp. I'm going to more yoga classes(wish I lived closer to you, Candilynn!)and hope to get some more progress done on this second book plus a revision.

Right now waiting for plumber. Yes, another pipe got a leak. Wonderful. NOT

Ooh, Mary Ann, you need to go back to my blogsite and pick a book! You're the winner from last week's #wipmadness!

  6. Galleys! exciting! good luck reviewing them. I mix writing madness with school's out for summer madness aged 9 and 4. Writing is that much harder to do in the summer when the wicked wee ones demand entertaining. That's why, after dropping off the face of the planet, I'm back to wip-ing it up. I NEED to get revisions done while I'm on submission for something else. I want to finish these revisions (gulp, more like a partial re-write) so I can get started on a new project that I've pushed back twice already.

    1. Great to have you back, Alex. And best wishes with the wip-ing. I've got a book that 9 yr old might like to read. ^_^

  7. Wow, stunning! I have really wanted to visit Sedona. Now I must!

Hope the review of galleys went well and everything looks great for your launch. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

As for my madness, I got feedback on 3 different manuscripts at once so I'm super busy revising, barely coming up for air!

  8. Oh, that is gorgeous!

I'm nearly 80% done the revisions, so I'm determined to finish those this month on my YA high fantasy. And send to agents. And then give my poor, ignored Urban Fantasy some love. Because it's been forever!

    2. Thanks! And then I spent an hour playing around with a romance piece. Because I'm great at taking on extra stuff, I thought I'd see if I can do anything with this for this month's Camp NaNo. 'cuz I'm insane like that. :)

  9. Beautiful pic.

I often question the method to my madness. It usually results in more writing. :)

Both Keysmashing Tots are down. The Elder is faring better but fever and a midnight nosebleed sent him to the ER just to be safe. Both fevers are gone but the Younger is now congested and has a runny nose. Fortunately, they both have appetites when I make them homemade stuff. Their mom said they didn't want to eat anything the whole weekend. My mom, their grandma, said they might have been waiting for us to get back because they're so used to us during the week.

Few things make my heart ache more than hearing a baby crying through labored breathing.

Logged 88,403 words in June for my Fractured Tales Series. Add that to 75,416 words from April and the series is taking shape. I have material for three books, so far, and I'm pretty excited about my scenes. Of course, I just got back to my brother's house this midafternoon and I have yet to write anything today. I wonder if I'll be stuck with the 10:30-midnight writing slot again for July.

I'm trying to read as much as possible, too, and aside from fiction, I've read non-fiction to help prepare for Camp NaNo. This includes WRITING WITH A HEAVY HEART written by a lovely fellow WIPster we all know. Great insight from your book, Denise. :)

I'm looking forward to another great writing month and hope everyone's enjoying the weather (when not sweating because of it).

    Cheers,

    Tonette

    3. Thank you, both. I love how we WIPsters are here to celebrate and commiserate together. :) It's just the fuel I need to keep chugging along.

  10. Planning to fit in lots of work on my MG WIP this summer, and hoping it doesn't feel too much like madness! We don't get a lot of warm summer days here in the PNW (as you know!), so I want to savour them. :)

  11. Beautiful photo!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Hope your eyes have a chance this week to soak some of that up...tween the galley reads that is!

My madness this week is all about writing. Need to get a routine back in place. Also planning the SRC events I am running at the library and reading lots and lots and redesigning a blog....hmm, it would seem that my madness is clearing my plate whilst filling it up at that same time? Also planning an interview feature for a certain author who I kinda admire and am very excited for heh heh...

    WIP on Wipsters, WIP ON!

  13. Gorgeous photo! My madness is in spending my days combing the rental ads and then slowly filling blank pages for my WIP, but in NOT packing. And I see our mounting bills and yet I continue to write. Must pack. Must find gainful employment. Yet I'm mad and I don't... I hope my next bit of writing isn't in the form of a cardboard sign.

    1. I hope not, too! On the cardboard sign front, that is. I do hope you find that perfect place soon. ^_^

  15. That photo is gorgeous! Sometimes great views are distracting, other times inspiring, so I hope it was the latter for you and you made great progress with those galleys. Congrats on the upcoming release!

I've been missing in action for a while... writing fairly regularly but not checking in due to summertime meanderings that involved a couple Mondays. I'm more motivated with my writing this summer than I have been for a while. Might be due to having registered for a writing conference in October and knowing how much I want to accomplish before then! I'm polishing a contest piece now and have ideas for a second one, so that's my focus this week. We're in the midst of a heat wave this week so it's conducive to hibernating indoors.

    Happy summertime writing, fellow Wipsters!
